Today I went to see the Kraken with my guild! Orphel came along, too!
We first gathered at our Silent Forest guild house to ensure that everyone was present and prepared.
Look at all these people!
After some discussion, we split ourselves into two raids as we had so many participants, eager to test their skills and luck.
We left under the cover of night to reduce the chances of our attempt being contested!
I got to hitch a ride on shifu's galleon!
We arrived at our destination as dawn broke. As we surrounded the Kraken, it watched its challengers coldly with eerie, glowing eyes.
After much careful manipulation and adjustment of position, we set up a formation around the Kraken. All that was needed was for the tank and healer team to swim towards the Kraken to distract it.
As the sun rose, the much-awaited commanded came.
"FIRE!"
A thunderous rumble cracked through the sky as forty cannons erupted simultaneously!
The Kraken thrashes its gargantuan arms with rage! Our diversion tactic seemed to work, as we constantly bombarded the terrifying creature from all directions while the tank and healer team kept it occupied and distracted. Our morale was high as we saw the amount and damage that the Kraken sustained over time as our organised attacks seemed to make progress ...
"Lower the anchor! Keep firing the cannon! No-one is to stop, not even to scratch your nose!" Aifi shouted commands to all the members on board as we proceeded to load the Kraken with lead.
... But the Kraken isn't touted as one of the most cunning sea monster for no reason.
After entertaining itself for some time, it decided that play time was over. Time to take some of us out for good measure! It turned from the tank team towards one of our galleons and continued swimming despite the wave of cannons that it was taking face on ... and took out with a single swipe of its arms!
As the shocked cannoneers scrambled to pick up members amongst the floatsam, the Kraken turned towards our direction.
We only had time to hope that our hand-hold on the nearest object was tight enough...
and watched in slow-motion horror as its towering tentacles whipped down towards us.
*BOOM!*
A wall of ocean pummeled into us, knocking the air out of our lungs and threatened to rip everyone from their hand-holds. I had never experienced so much seawater in my whole life. It felt like our galleon was going to be smashed into millions of little splinter pieces, and all I could do was wrap my arms tighter around the cannon barrel for dear life with all my firran strength.
"Help repair the ship!"
As we emerged sodden from the attack, still stunned but too hyper-aware to stop in our tracks, somebody - I couldn't remember who - grabbed the wheel and steered the galleon out of range before we could receive any more attacks.
We were so close to defeating the Kraken, but with two swipes of its mighty tentacles, several of our galleons sustained tremendous damage. As everyone scrambled to repair their respective ships and sail it out of range, we could only watch as the injuries on the Kraken sealed up and healed itself before our very eyes.
After some quick repairs, we turned our cannons towards to the Kraken again.
But just as we thought we might be able to take it down again ...
*knock*
We watched with despair as another galleon topples over and gets taken out. It was a never-ending cycle of cannoning and repairing.
-----
We were at it for such a long time, that eventually we decided that while we were able to severely injure the Kraken, we were still far from being strong enough to deliver a decisive last blow to take it out. After a long day and running through thousands of cannonballs, we picked up our members from the wreckages in the sea and sailed back home, determined to fight again another day.
